Forest Stewardship
The FSC Logo
Displaying the FSC logo on your printed materials is an excellent way to demonstrate to your clients and stakeholders that your company is
environmentally conscientious. In order to use the FSC logo you must both choose to print on an FSC certified paper and have those materials produced by a certified Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody (FSC COC) manufacturer, such as EBSCO Media. We will help you select a certified paper (this list is growing every day) for your project and make certain that the correct FSC logo is placed in the approved manner on your final product.
For a downloadable pdf list of all FSC certified papers, go to:
www.fscus.org/paperChain of CustodyThe FSC certification process is based on a “chain of custody” that, in the case of virgin fiber, starts with the forest in which the trees are grown and harvested and continues along the entire manufacturing path: to the mill at which the trees are made into paper, to the distributor that sells that paper to a manufacturer, and finally to the printer that turns that paper into a finished piece for a client. For recycled content, the chain of custody begins with the mill. By maintaining tight control of the transfer of product, it is possible to ensure that the brochure you hold in your hands originated from sources that were managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.
How Forest Certification WorksForest certification exploits basic market principals to benefit the environment. By choosing to print on papers from certified forests you help create demand for responsibly managed resources, which in turn motivates more suppliers to adopt good stewardship practices.
Why FSC?A certification process is only as good as the credibility of the certifying body. That is why EBSCO Media sought to be an approved provider of FSC certified papers. FSC, which stands for Forest Stewardship Council, is widely recognized as the gold standard for wood products. Established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests, FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization. As an objective third-party, it is able to credibly provide standard setting trademark assurance and accreditation services for organizations interested in responsible forestry.
